Objective
The British Council’s TeachingEnglish defines digital communities of practice as groups with common interests who collaborate and learn from one another to improve their practices online.
Our objective is to create a new space exclusively for teacher educators, first in WhatsApp and later in a Facebook group to:
- provide English language teacher educators with improved skills, knowledge, and motivation to provide sustainable training and support to teachers.
help teacher educators be recognised as experts in their context and have agency to influence wider change in English language teaching and learning.
Role and responsibilities
The teacher educator community lead:
- plans and implements content in line with British Council’s content strategy and programme branding that meets community member needs
- nurtures meaningful dialogue that supports members and meets their objectives for joining
- nurtures distributed leadership roles
- oversees the planning and production of potential live events (following brand instructions)
- ensures the safe management of the digital spaces
- escalates potential risks in a time critical way, ensuring inappropriate content is immediately removed, banning members and reporting to appropriate stakeholders
- meets with key internal stakeholders.
Timeline
This work is expected to be covered up to eight days a month (approximately two days a week), starting 20 January 2025 until July 2027.
