Vietnam Pathways to UK Universities – March 2014

Career Orientation has always been the burning needs for high school students in Vietnam. Feedback from previous exhibitions also showed that students would need more information and guidance about the major that they would choose for their degree course. That was to help students choose the right course, and benefit the most from their chosen course. Considering the needs, the British Council Vietnam themed the Pathways to UK Universities exhibition this year ‘Career Orientation.’ The two main activities around the theme included the Career Orientation workshops in Business, Art & Design, Education, and Tourism & Hospitality, and the Career Zone with the participation of UK alumni in these subject areas. The activities were very well received, and the event as a whole met the expectation of over 80 percent of visiting students and parents.

The event this year actually saw a decline in number in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). One of the reasons was likely because of the clash with another US education exhibition. While the British Council had done its best in communication with peer organisations to avoid direct clashes, we were unable to avoid a clash with exhibitions organised by education agents. Despite the smaller number of visitors in HCMC in comparison with the previous years, visitors’ quality was commented as good. Almost 93 per cent of exhibitors also said that the event was either as good as or better than previous year.
