Southwest University China seeks partners

Southwest University (SWU) is looking for UK partners to develop partnership programmes at bachelor and master levels. Founded in 2005, Southwest University (SWU) encompasses Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University, which share an origin dating back to 1906. As a member of “211 Project” and “Double First-class” universities, SWU has an extensive set of disciplinary categories including philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and art. It is especially known for its distinctive teacher education and agricultural education. It has established 1 non independent legal entity for Chinese-foreign cooperative education (with Australia), 6 undergraduate programmes for Chinese-foreign cooperative education, 13 international cooperative joint laboratories, 7 overseas international Chinese language education institutions.

Form of cooperation

In terms of cooperation form, SWU is open for discussion with UK partners interested. Below are possible forms to consider at initial stage:

   a.Articulation programme

   b.Joint programme (which needs approval from the MoE China)

Benefits for the UK partners

This provides an opportunity for the UK universities to:

   a.establish long-term partnership with SWU, with potential for expansion into other fields such as research, student exchange, faculty exchange, teacher training, etc.

   b.raise institutions’ profiles and brand awareness in China, which may benefit student recruitment

   c.establish alumni association and social network in China

Areas of responsibility for the two collaborating parties

The UK partner university will be expected to work with SWU to:

   a.develop the curricula for the joint programmes together with SWU

   b.provide qualified teaching staff for the joint programmes

   c.award bachelor and master’s degree to students

SWU will be responsible for:

  a.promoting and recruiting students for the programmes

  b.providing qualified teaching staff, required teaching premises and facilities

  c.award bachelor and master’s degree to students
