UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership Award 2024

The UK-Malaysia Educational Institutional Partnership Award 2024 is a category of award presented by the British Council in collaboration with the British Malaysia Chamber of Commerce as part of the prestigious Business Excellence Awards. The Institutional Partnership Award was conceptualized to honor a UK higher or further education institution that has partnered with a Malaysian organization to deliver significant impact in the last 5 years and contributed exceptional results and value creation to the education sector in Malaysia, capitalizing on the best of UK & Malaysia expertise through a seamless partnership.

Last year, Reading University attained this award for its partnership with University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in implementing the Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics Research and Training Unit (N2RTU), which resulted in cross-border linkages between the UK and Malaysia in capacity building, industrial linkages, student mobility programs, and the identification of groundbreaking results to aid Malaysia in overcoming the obesity epidemic. Lancaster University was named the winner of the award in 2022 for their partnership with Sunway University in establishing the Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI) as well as for their multidimensional partnerships in creating jobs and encouraging knowledge transfer, which benefits both Malaysia and the UK over the long term.

These awards provide a great opportunity for British higher and further education institutions to celebrate and share their great success stories and partnership journey in Malaysia.

Judging criteria:

  • A judging panel of experts in their field will evaluate each submission based on two main criteria:

Completeness

Ability to answer and elaborate on each question effectively and consistently with presentable information relevant to the questions.

Credibility

Support all statements with verifiable facts and data, including but not limited to statistics, accreditation or certification by reputable bodies, awards or recognition, client feedback, and customer testimonials.

  • The shortlisted nominations will be required to deliver a 10 minute presentation to the panel of judges for final assessment and selection.

Through the evaluation of case studies and narratives, judges will look for evidence of the following:

What are the significant milestones, impact and outcome that this partnership has achieved in the last 3 - 5 years in at least 3 of the following areas - teaching, graduate employability, student experience, industry links, alumni relations, academic development, civic engagement, research and innovation?
  4. How has it generated revenue, spurred innovation and yielded the exchange of knowledge, skills and resources between both organizations as well as the market it operates within?
  5. How has the collaboration made a significant contribution to local and regional development in the UK and Malaysia?
