On 7 May 2020 the British Council USA held a virtual market briefing in partnership with BUILA which focused on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on US student recruitment and mobility. We heard from a couple of different organisations during the briefing, including IIE, NACAC and UKVI. Over 160 representatives from UK universities attended the briefing.
Leah Mason from IIE shared about the latest Open Doors and Project Atlas data on US student mobility to the UK, the results of their IIE Covid-19 Snapshot Survey which focused on student mobility to and from China, and historical data around the impact of past health crises on US student mobility trends.
Lindsay Addington from NACAC shared about the impact which Covid-19 is having on their members and on US college admissions, including the impact on standardised testing, the top three concerns of prospective students during this time, and the tools and resources which NACAC has created for their members to share Covid-19 updates with students and counselors.
Ciaran Hanley from UKVI gave us an overview of the student visa process in the US and Covid-19 related guidance.
