The British Council is seeking an experienced training partner to deliver training to international officers within Indian state higher education institutions.
The training will focus on building capacity to strengthen international strategy and planning, supporting future international cooperation and internationalisation, in line with the country’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Course content, training modules and resources will be provided to the selected delivery partner.
Context
India’s NEP 2020 has a strong focus on internationalisation, leading to the University Grants Commission (UGC) appointing 179 International officers in institutions across India. State governments have also expressed an interest in working with UK universities to strengthen their capacity to internationalise their universities and to build skills, knowledge and expertise of the senior and mid-level officers to support internationalisation.
However, a British Council scoping study highlighted gaps and challenges concerning collaborating with Indian universities, including the lack of common vocabulary, objectives and structure of international departments. To bridge these gaps, we developed modules to support international officers at state universities in implementing the government's vision of stronger collaboration and internationalisation.
This call is to onboard a training delivery partner to deliver this training as per demand.
Objectives
The selected delivery partner is expected to:
- deliver a set of modules created to build the capacity of international officers, which will support the overall project aim of enhancing the internationalisation development work of Indian universities.
- support the newly appointed internationalisation professionals at the strategic and tactical levels
- review the provided modules and help the international officers implement the recommendations of the British Council scoping study, in partnership with federal and state education systems and individual universities/institutions, as appropriate, complimenting current experience and successful practices in India
- instil and support the knowledge, values and skills of effective international officers
- create and maintain a record of training outcomes and feedback.
Eligibility criteria
The selected delivery partner will demonstrate:
- a sound understanding of the Indian higher education landscape, work done by the Indian regulatory bodies, NEP 2020 and the Indian government’s internationalisation agenda linked to this
- an understanding of the different working styles of state, private and public universities in India
- experience and expertise in similar work in South Asia, including developing and delivering internationalisation training and identifying the training needs of various stakeholders
- expertise in developing the systemic capabilities of higher education institutions concerning internationalisation, including experience in developing capacity-building programmes for institutions to become internationalised in terms of their systems and processes that can be adapted to address the needs of Indian institutions that aspire to become internationally comparable
- an understanding of the monitoring, evaluation and learning framework within universities
- connections with external bodies working in similar areas will be an asset.
