Consultancy Services: Research Communication Training

Request for Proposals

The British Council Bahrain seeks the services of individual trainer to deliver “Research Communication training” in Bahrain, for the Higher Education–Researcher Connect project (under the Gulf Strategy Fund portfolio) and “Research Ethics training” as part of a national research competition (under Bahrain Higher Education Project Fund).

Background

This project supports the StudyUK and GREAT education brands, promoting the excellence of UK research and positioning the UK as a partner of choice in Education through creating new opportunities for HE partners in Bahrain and the UK to collaborate. It also support  Bahrain National Research Strategy 2014-2024 which aims at: helping transform the Bahraini economy into a Knowledge Economy, reducing Bahrain’s dependence on natural resources, ensuring the long-term social, environmental, and cultural well-being of the Kingdom, improving the application of global health research to the unique medical needs of Bahraini citizens, advancing the prestige of the Kingdom within the region and globally, and providing local opportunities for Bahraini citizens for world-class education and research. The National Research Strategy has five overarching objectives related to institutional reforms and research focus. This project supports strategy number 4.

  1. Establish a national research governance infrastructure.
  2. Strengthen university research capacity.
  3. Strengthen the integration of academic institutions with international research institutions & with entities focused on Bahrain’s economic & social priorities.
  4. Improve public awareness and understanding of research and innovation.
  5. Address national research priorities

Programme content and requirements:

The project consists of two main events:

  1. Training on research communication skills:

(14-18 November 2021, 5 days/ 6 hours per day)

  • A workshop in Researcher Connect adapted to undergraduates by one UK trainer to 125 undergraduates who are in their final year of their study and are expected to submit a graduation research paper. They will be divided into 5 groups of 25 per group.
  • The same training session will be repeated for five days to 5 different groups. Participants will identify a research topic and prepare an outline of their research for peer review by end of the training
  • Trained undergraduates are later to be supervised by their tutors to do the research in a period of 2.5 months
  1. Second Research Competition:

(20-24 February 2022, 3 days/ 6 hours per day)

  • Bahrain HE institutions short list their students’ best research papers presented in two formats; Power Point Presentations & Poster (abstract & summary) and submit them to Bahrain Higher Education Council.
  • A three-day seminar will be organised for the same undergraduates to present 90 presentations: 15 PPP and 15 Posters per day. A panel of Judges, including the trainer, rate their work and identify 10 winners: 5 from each category
  • A two-hour lecture on Research Ethics is to be delivered to the students before presenting their works
  • The fourth day is to award the winners
