UK-India Career Summit – New Delhi

The British Council in partnership with AVTAR Career Creators successfully concluded the ‘UK-India Career Summit’ in New Delhi on 30 November at Hotel Lalit. The aim of this summit was to help employers connect with talented UK graduates, who are eager to build their careers in India.

The second edition of ‘UK-India Career Summit’ saw an overwhelming response from UK graduates, who travelled from different cities in India to be a part of this unique initiative. The job fair witnessed participation from more than 350 UK graduates, who utilised this opportunity to give interviews and interact with leading corporates in India.

More than 15 reputed companies including PepsiCo, Apollo Munich, Bharti AXA, Sterlite Technologies and Grofers participated in the Summit. The companies from diverse industries offered UK graduates exciting career opportunities across sectors including Banking and Financial Services, Engineering, E-commerce, Law and FMCG.

More than 350 interviews were conducted by the corporates and over 150 candidates were shortlisted for the second round of interviews.

The attending corporates welcomed the idea and were positive about the concept of a UK-India career summit. The UK alumni believed it was a good platform for them to connect with employers and industry professionals and the opportunity helped them transition into their chosen career paths after the completion of their studies.

Talking about her experience as a recruiter, Saumya Agarwal, AVP, HR, Grofers said, “Grofers has never really been at a career summit before. We are happy with the quality of talent pool present here and we have already met 30-40 UK alumni today at this platform. Today, we were looking for profiles across varied roles such as HR, Sales, Operations and Marketing and the talent present here seemed to fit the bill. “

Karan Jain, who pursued his Masters in International Relations from University of Strathclyde in 2013-14 said,

“Studying in the UK was a wonderful experience. The courses are organised and well planned for students. They offered a great exposure and international experience. I met people from about 35-40 nationalities and made friends for life. During my time there, I also travelled across Europe, which was an enriching experience in itself. This summit is a great platform to network and gauge the job market. I feel it is a fantastic initiative for employers as well, as they get to meet great talent under one roof. More such events should be available to students to connect with companies from various sectors. ”

Below are some key findings from the feedback survey conducted amongst the corporates:

  • More than 80 per cent of the corporates believed the event flow was appropriate.
  • 70 per cent corporates felt they met quality candidates at the Career Summit.
  • All participating corporates recruit students who have studied abroad.
