Report on International Higher Education collaboration on upcycling of industry left-overs, round 2

Following the first “Sino-UK Higher Education Collaboration on Upcycling of Industry Left-overs” which successfully took place in May 2012 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, the British Council China jointly worked with Chinese partners for the 2nd round in Changsha Hunan Province from 10 to 24 May 2013. Apart from higher education institutions from UK and China, the second round was extended to all countries in East Asia and in the end one university from South Korea participated.

The objectives of the collaboration project are as follows:

1. Students: by working together with students from the other countries, students will develop their language skills, team working spirit and intercultural skills, demonstrate their creativity and improve their employability.

2. Universities: some institutional links will be set up as the result of the activities we organise. By working with industry, their curriculum will be improved to be more practical.

3. Enterprises will find an environmental-friendly and energy-efficient way to deal with their industry left-overs.

The collaboration project also falls in Knowledge Economy Partnership strand of IHE programme, BC’s global initiative on higher education work, which is aimed at providing a platform and framework for the creation of sustainable, multilateral partnerships that link the higher education sector, government and business communities to drive forward global, regional and national knowledge economies.
