The demand for UK schooling remains strong due to the public uncertainty over the education reforms which have been implemented in Hong Kong, in particular the phasing in of a new academic structure. As the Education UK schools and colleges exhibition was held at a time of sustained economic recovery in Hong Kong, the favourable economic climate combined with the lack of confidence in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, contributed to a positive environment for the event overall.

The exhibition was held on Saturday 13 October at the Regal Hong Kong Hotel, Causeway Bay, and attracted approximately 1,000 people to attend. The event brought representatives from 36 UK schools and further education institutions to meet with Hong Kong students and parents, providing them with information on education opportunities, subject and pathway choices, as well as helping them to make applications for the September 2013 semester.

A series of seminars were held on the day with topics including the implications of Hong Kong's new education system for studying in the UK, types of UK institutions accessible to international students, education pathways available, as well as truths and myths in school/university application.

The topical seminars and large number of school exhibitors also attracted a lot of media interest, with reporters from top mass-circulation newspapers coming to attend the event.

Exhibitors commented positively on the quality of the event, and of the serious interest from the families they met. "I have enjoyed this event very much. We have made good contacts today with some serious enquiries which will result in further meetings next week," said Alister Minnis, Deputy Headmaster of Lomond School. John Wilson, Director of Studies of Ashbourne College, meanwhile, commented: 'It is an excellent, well run and well attended event.'
