Xiamen University of Technology seeks a UK Partner to establish a joint programme in the field of Engineering

Opportunity

Xiamen University of Technology (XMUT) is looking for UK partners interested in establishing a Ministry of Education approved transnational education joint undergraduate programme in the field of Engineering. Possible subject areas include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Optoelectronic Engineering, Automation or Material Engineering. The partnership would be in the format of 3+1 or 4+0.

Responsibilities of the two partners

The UK partner will be expected to:

  • Jointly develop the curricula for the joint programme
  • provide support in the quality assurance of the programmes, including hosting academic visits and training of XMUT faculty (XMUT to cover costs)
  • undertake the teaching of one third of the core modules of the programme
  • ensure compliance with all necessary regulations of formally approved transnational education programmes in China.

XMUT will be responsible for:

  • Programme application paperwork to the Chinese Ministry of Education (with supporting documents from the UK university partner)
  • promoting and recruiting students for the programme (estimated annual recruitment is 100 students)
  • operational, teaching and administrative costs of the collaborative programme
  • XMUT is open to discussing the financial scheme and other partnership details with the UK partner face to face.

About Xiamen University of Technology

Founded in 1981, Xiamen University of Technology (XMUT) is a provincial key university in Fujian Province that is co-funded by Fujian provincial government and Xiamen municipal government. XMUT currently has 20 academic colleges, 21,000 students and 1,200 faculty members.

Currently, XMUT has two Sino-foreign collaborative education programmes, one in Environmental Engineering with the University of Regina (Canada) and the other one in Electronic Engineering with the Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand). As such, XMUT has experience in making applications for the Ministry of Education’s approval on collaborative programmes as well as in the management of the teaching and academic standards of collaborative programmes.

Projected timeline for collaboration:

  • September to December 2019: Initial discussions on the partnership
  • March 2020: Application submitted to the MOE
  • May 2020: Approval by the MOE
  • September 2020: First year enrolment on to the programme
