How will this collaboration benefit both institutes?

Sri Lankan market for higher education is very promising as a business proposition for private universities such as Saegis and their international partners. In Sri Lanka, 301,771 students sat for the GCE Advanced Level examination in 2020. Out of which 194,297 (about 65 per cent) became qualified to enter a higher educational institution to study for a degree. However, State Universities could offer only 25,200 places. Out of the rest, nearly 25,000 students will join technical colleges (TAFEs), Open University and other similar tertiary institutions.

It is estimated that about 16,000 students leave the country to study at overseas higher educational institutions. This leaves about 128,000 GCE Advanced Level qualified students who would pursue a tertiary qualification, preferably a degree, if avenues were available in Sri Lanka.  It is estimated that only about 12,000 students are currently absorbed into the private sector higher educational institutions such as Saegis. This leaves at least 116,000 prospective students to be absorb into the affordable tertiary education within Sri Lanka.

Based on the wealth and income levels of Sri Lankan population, about 20 percent of the families of these students would be able to afford average course fees charged by private providers who offer foreign-university degree programmes in Sri Lanka. These numbers keep rising due to demographic trends and current socio- economic conditions with more and more youth and parents are looking for recognized international qualification in improving their chances for international mobility.

Given the consistent demand for computing, management, accounting, finance, language, Engineering, and health science courses, and given the reputation of Saegis Campus, they are confident that substantive number of students will enrol at  Saegis  Campus  to  pursue  international  university degree programmes making this proposal financially worthwhile.
