A new university, which will be based in Hiroshima Japan, is seeking to establish partnerships with UK institutions. The university will be a public institution managed under the same umbrella as the Prefectural University of Hiroshima.  It will open its doors to its first intake of 100 students in April 2021 and aims to reach full capacity of 400 students by 2024.   

This is an exciting development for Japan’s higher education sector and one that provides an excellent opportunity for UK institutions to build new links in the country.

Key features of the new university

- Liberal arts curriculum focussing on group-centred project-based learning fostering practical skills. Projects will be set by external organisations such as local business, NPOs, and local government, and will focus on real-life problems that these organisations face in their daily work.

- All programmes to be offered in both English and Japanese.

- Quarterly academic calendar to facilitate access to study abroad opportunities and entry for international students.

Type of Partner Sought

- Universities offering courses in humanities and social sciences, economics, business administration, and environmental studies.

- Universities with safe student accommodation.

Type of agreement sought

- 3-month, 6-month, and 1-year mutual student exchange programs. In principle, the number of students exchanged will be reciprocal and the host institution’s tuition fees will be waived.

- Student dispatch programs where mutual student exchange proves difficult to realise.
