Mini Fairs for Canadian Independent Schools in September 2013 – are you interested?

British Council Canada is working with UK Trade & Investment and the Canadian Independent School Counsellors association to develop two Pilot Mini Fairs.  The aim is to support UK university reps to meet with independent school counsellors, their nominated students, and those students’ parents.

We are planning the Pilot Mini Fairs around the Recruit in Canada dates for Toronto and Vancouver.

The tentative schedule is:

  • Toronto – Tuesday 24 September in the evening
  • Vancouver – Wednesday 25 September in the evening

The tentative Pilot Mini Fair plan is as follows:

  • Event hosted at one of the participating schools.
  • Approximately ten schools involved in each event.
  • Each school counsellor invites the ten students (and the students’ parents) who they think has most interest in going to university in the UK.
  • Participating universities could each host a small table with information about their programmes.
  • There will be a couple of short talks, for example on direct entry programmes and the UCAS application process.
  • And the rest of the night will involve informal networking, discussions and refreshments.
  • There will be a small charge to participating universities to cover the costs of the event.

Action Required

At this stage we are just scoping out interest to see if we should move forward with this idea.  If you think you would in principle be interested in participating in either or both of these Pilot Mini Fairs, please send an email with ‘Pilot UK Mini Fairs’ in the subject heading to:

CA-Education@britishcouncil.org

Please include the following information:

  1. Are you interested in participating in a Pilot Mini Fair in Toronto on the evening of Tuesday 24 September?
  2. Are you interested in participating in a Pilot Mini Fair in Vancouver in the evening of Wednesday 25 September?
  3. Are you interested in participating in a breakfast meeting with counsellors only (no students or parents) on Thursday 26 September?

  Thanks for your interest!
