We are inviting UK higher education institutions to connect with university leaders and Ministry of Higher Education senior officials from Iraq and discuss ways of developing an enabling environment for internationalisation and future co-operation.

Background

The British Council in Iraq is co-ordinating with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Baghdad and six public universities in federal Iraq to understand priorities for international partnerships support connections with UK counterparts to discuss mutual and shared interests.

Potential priority areas for collaboration include:

• medical sciences and engineering
• improving teaching and learning (e.g. professional development for faculty, joint awards)
• opportunities for early-career researchers
• transnational education.

Aims of the event

The aims of this joint higher education dialogue are to:

• gauge interest from UK institutions in relation to potential higher education collaborations with Iraq (in research or teaching/learning), in any academic field, and specifically in the areas of medical sciences and engineering, to help identify areas of shared interest
• provide opportunities for UK institutions to meet with Ministry of Higher Education senior officials and university leaders from Iraq to discuss future opportunities for co-operation between the UK and Iraq.

Event details

The event will take place at Park Plaza Victoria, London, on 22 and 23 May 2024.

It is aimed at senior leaders in global partnership development. Please include the names and roles of participants as part of the expression of interest.

After reviewing the expressions of interest, the full agenda will be shared with confirmed participants.
