Japanese university seeks UK partners for student exchange

Soka University, a private university located in Tokyo, is seeking to establish student exchange partnerships with UK institutions. 

This is an excellent opportunity for UK universities looking to boost engagement with Japan and increase both inbound and outbound student mobility. Please see below for further details on the University and the type of partner sought.

Institution Overview (provided by the University)

Soka University was founded in 1971 upon Buddhist principles of peace, human rights and the sanctity of life. We are dedicated to fostering creative individuals who are committed to generating new ideas and constructive values in all areas of society.

As of June 2019, we have exchange agreements with 215 universities from 61 countries and regions.

In 2014, Soka University was selected as a “Top Global University” by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. The number of international students at our university has since increased from 313 to 833, while outbound student numbers have grown from 557 to 792. Meanwhile, we have expanded the number of courses offered in English from 120 to 534.

Type of partner institution sought

UK universities that can provide:

  • Undergraduate level programmes for exchange students
  • Student accommodation (dormitory/apartment/homestay)
  • Tuition waiver for exchange students

Type of agreement sought

  • One-semester and/or full-year student exchange programmes. In principle, the number of students exchanged should be reciprocal.

Action Required

UK institutions interested in exploring partnership opportunities with Soka University should complete the attached form and return to Hal Parker (hal.parker@britishcouncil.or.jp) by 31st July 2019.

The British Council will collate and share completed forms with the University in early August.  The University will then directly contact those institutions they are interested in meeting.
