The British Council, the Thailand Research Fund (TRF), the National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office (STI), and the Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC) have launched a call for proposals as part of the Newton Fund Researcher Links Travel Grant and Institutional Links initiative to encourage research exchange and international research collaboration between researchers from Thailand and the UK.

Researcher Links Travel Grant:
Eligible researchers will receive travel grants for research visits in Thailand for up to 6 months. Thai researchers are also welcome to apply for a research visit to the UK. The programme is open for various academic areas that are central to Thailand’s economic and social developments, ranging from humanities, social studies to science and technology.

Institutional Links
Funded by STI: Grants can be between £100,000 to £300,000 over two years

This joint call will focus on the following issues related to the enhancement of science technology and innovation policy research in Thailand:
o Capacity building related to science technology and innovation policy
o Innovation systems at national, regional and sectoral levels
o Science technology and innovation data collection, quality and access
o Science technology and innovation indicators
o Science technology and innovation policy evaluation
o Innovation management and research commercialization
o Science technology and innovation human resource management
o Science technology and innovation infrastructure
o Science technology and innovation for health, food, energy and/or environment
o Technology foresights and future cities

Funded by OHEC: Grants can be between £50,000-£100,000 over 12 months

Thematic priority areas:
o Agriculture and Food
o Energy
o Environment and Natural Resources
o Health
o Social Science and Humanities
o Biodiversity-Based Socio-Economy

Research applicable to industry will be welcome. We also encourage multidisciplinary proposals across the above themes.

About the Newton Fund

Newton Fund
The Newton Fund is part of the UK's official development assistance programme. Through the Newton Fund, the UK will use its strength in research and innovation to promote economic development and social welfare of partner countries.

Thailand Research Fund
Under the Newton Fund, the British Council is working in partnership with the Thailand Research Fund, an autonomous organisation which focuses on building up professional researchers, strengthening the research community, and supporting research that is significant to national development.

National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office (STI)
STI has been established specifically to provide support to the government in terms of STI policy formulation, coordination, and promotion. The office is committed to strengthening the country 's capacity in its move towards a knowledge-based economy.

Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC)
The Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC) is responsible for Thailand's higher education, overseeing higher education institutions at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
