In Uruguay there is a shortage of teachers in the state sector to teach ‘computational thinking’. Plan Ceibal (www.ceibal.edu.uy) has undertaken a pilot to teach computational thinking to state school primary children via videoconferencing and would like to expand the project in 2019. Last year, approximately 500 hours a week of classes were given, and Ceibal hope to extend this to 1500 this year. The project as a whole would last for three years.

Plan Ceibal are now looking for new delivery partners to teach computational thinking using home-based teachers with a knowledge of IT and who are fluent in Spanish. Teachers will use Cisco’s Jabber software to teach computational thinking following prepared lesson plans during the Uruguayan daytime (GMT -3) and academic year (March to September). Applicants may apply as as a provider (who would just teach classes) or as a partner (in this case, Ceibal would fund fixed staffing costs to provide project management and service development).
