Guangzhou College of Commerce seeks UK partners for 3+0 or 2+1 dual degree diplomas in business programmes

Guangzhou College of Commerce (GCC) in Guangdong Province of South China is looking for UK universities or colleges to jointly develop and deliver 3+0 or 2+1 dual degree diplomas (HND) in three to four subject areas, with a focus on business subjects, including but not limited to; accounting, international trade, travel and tourism, digital media, and information technology.

The joint programmes expect to recruit a total of approximately 300 students each year beginning from September 2017 (with each subject recruiting 100-150 students). The selected UK institutions will partner with GCC to provide the tuition for the teaching of the joint programmes in China.

It is expected that students who meet with the necessary English language proficiency requirements, UK visa requirements and have financial capacity to pay for their study and living costs in the UK will have the option of completing the HNDs at the partner university or college in the UK in their third year.

It is expected that students wishing to pursue further education after obtaining their diplomas will have the option of progressing to top-up courses and master degrees at the UK partner university or college if they meet with the necessary entry requirements.

The Chinese college and the UK partner institution will have autonomy to discuss and decide the detailed nature of the partnership, including the financial model and curriculum mapping and design.

Benefits for the UK partners

This is an opportunity for the selected UK partner institution to:

  • establish a long-term strategic partnership with the Chinese college, with potential for expansion into other subject areas and fields of cooperation, including student and staff exchange, curriculum development etc.
  • receive financial reimbursement for their programme delivery. Detailed financial arrangements to be further negotiated with the Chinese institution
  • benefit student recruitment by jointly creating a growing student pool each year.

Areas of responsibility for the two collaborating parties

The selected UK partners will be expected to:

  • contribute to developing a joint curriculum for the programme(s)
  • provide quality assurance for the programme(s)
  • provide teaching/staffing resources to deliver programme(s) in China upon mutual agreement
  • provide formal transcript/academic records and diploma/HND/associate degree certificates upon successful completion of the programme(s)
  • provide teaching staff training to the Chinese counterparts
  • facilitate student admission and provide other related academic/administration support locally and overseas.

    The GCC will be expected to:  

  • gain approval for the joint programme(s) from the local education department
  • advertise and promote the joint porgramme(s) to recruit students nationally
  • provide high standard teaching premises, qualified teaching staff and a dedicated programme coordination team
  • hold on campus seminars/events in collaboration with the UK partner institutions to promote studying opportunities at the UK partner institutions.

    About Guangzhou College of Commerce

Guangzhou College of Commerce was established in the late 1990s as one of the earliest private colleges in Guangdong Province. The college provides both diploma and undergraduate programs to a total of 16,000 students. The college has built close links with universities and colleges in the US, UK, Canada and many other countries. Currently there are about 1,000 students studying on joint programmes or exchange programmes that GCC has set up with overseas institutions. 

The college is located in Zeng Cheng county of Guangzhou City, a 30-minute drive from the city centre. Guangzhou is the capital city of Guangdong Province,  one of China’s three key metropolises and the economic centre of South China.
