Leadership is essential to ensure universities meet the challenges and changing needs of societies today. But what makes a good leader in the higher education sector and how has effective leadership contributed to the rapid development of world-class institutions in East Asia? In this, the last of the 2012-13 Global Education Dialogues, higher education leaders from the UK, East and South-East Asia will discuss the critical issues facing them in their leadership roles.

Aims of Dialogue:

Universities are highly complex organisations facing unprecedented challenges in the new globalised context. This dialogue looks at what leadership means in the Asian context today and considers how it can be embedded at all levels of an institution. It will attempt to make sense of the different cultural contexts and systems of governance and identify areas of commonality and expertise in the UK and East Asia.

The dialogue will address the following key themes:

• The new leadership paradigm
• What makes a world-class leader in higher education today?
• Leadership in the Asian context
• Distributing leadership across the institution
• Leading for diversity
