The objectives of the event:

  • Network – meet existing and new partners and share knowledge.
  • Discuss – outline the enabling environment in the form of strategy, trends, and opportunities for deepening and progressing TNE partnerships.
  • Partner – create a platform to develop partnerships in teaching, learning and research.
  • Invest - position Vietnam as an emerging destination for international branch campuses and TNE programmes

Through this conference, the Viet Nam government wants to attract more partnerships and investments in education from overseas to Vietnam, especially the setting up of International Branch Campuses (IBC).

In the last two years, British Council Viet Nam has worked with MOET to produce number of reports to support TNE development in Vietnam such as Easy Step Guide on Education Cooperation and Investment in Viet Nam (https://www.britishcouncil.vn/sites/default/files/handbook-easy-step-gui...) and toward a more competitive environment for transnational education in Viet Nam (https://www.britishcouncil.vn/sites/default/files/report_towards_a_more_...).

In 2024, the British Council in Viet Nam continues to support MOET to develop a report on the attractiveness of Viet Nam as the next study destination in Southeast Asia. We aim to launch the report during this conference.

About the education priority in Viet Nam
The Government of Viet Nam encourages international education cooperation and investment, through the increased internationalisation of its education sector, in order to enhance education quality and workforce development.  The Higher Education Strategy/Master Plan (2021-2030) seeks to widen access to higher education, focusing on STEM (35%), improving quality across teaching, research, producing highly qualified employable graduates, and leading-edge research that can positively impact the national and regional economy. The government prioritise the quality improvement of HE teaching and research staff through a new initiative – a fully funded PhD scholarship scheme “Project 89” launched in 2021 targeting by 2030 to send 7,300 teaching staff (7% on full-time, 3% on TNE) for PhD training at foreign universities worldwide.  Since the launch, there were only 10 students to the UK among 80 registered (less than 10% registered for overseas study) (statistics by MOET).
