Chinese international college seeks UK partner to host annual summer camps

An international college of a leading Chinese university is seeking a UK partner university to host annual summer camps about English language and culture learning.

The camps should be from two and half weeks to three weeks in length and held on an annual basis starting from July 2017. The participating students are 18 to 20 years old, and the camp should take place in the host university’s campus.

The Chinese international college would like to use this camp as a starting point for a long-term partnership with the UK host university. This long-term partnership will explore the possibility of sending Chinese students on exchange to the UK university, joint articulation courses, joint research, etc. It is expected that when the agreement on the first summer camp is signed, a Memorandum of Understanding on further developing joint programmes will also be signed.

The international college has successfully partnered with a university in Australia on a similar student camp. The cost of the existing programme is about AUS$ 2500 per student for a 3-week programme, which covers tuition, accommodation, meals and airport pick-up. The Chinese college hopes to apply the same model to a UK partner and understands that costs in the UK might be higher than in Australia.  Actual cost shall be discussed further by both parites. The first summer camp will act as a pilot project to test the cooperation between the UK and Chinese partner, before investigating other collaborative projects.

The students will stay on in the UK for one more week after completing the summer camp to do some sightseeing, which will be wholly arranged by the Chinese international college.

Benefits

The participating UK university will:

  • have the opportunity to develop a long-term partnership with the Chinese university to collaborate in multiple areas
  • receive financial income through the summer camp
  • potentially recruit new international students from the Chinese partner university.
