Call for UK universities to host a Japanese high school student group from Osaka in July 2016

UK universities are invited to tender to host approximately 32 high school students and group leaders from Osaka Japan for a 2-day visit in London area in late July 2016.

Background:

In 2012, Osaka Prefectural Government launched the Osaka Global School (OGS) programme, under which they have sent groups of high school students to the US and UK for two weeks to visit and experience student life at the universities in each country. The British Council Japan has been running the UK-bound programme since 2012 and we have been sending students to several UK universities which were selected through tender.

The British Council Japan is now preparing for a proposal to run the OGS programme in 2016 to be submitted to Osaka Prefectural Government and we are now calling for expressions of interest from UK universities which can host the group for the first two days in London area.

The students (aged 16-18) will be selected out of approximately 100 applicants and required to have an interest in study abroad and a certain level of English (IELTS 4.5 to 6). They will also participate in a series of preparatory classes of English before going to the UK. The 2015 UK visit received very positive feedback from all involved. The UK host universities were impressed with the enthusiasm and motivation of the students, as well as with their English level.

Date:
28 July: Arrive London Heathrow (evening)
29 July: Activities in London
30 July: London tour (morning) / Depart London (afternoon)
*Please note that the dates are subject to change. We are seeking host universities in London area.

  • The host institution should be able to accommodate the participants in student accommodation and provide meals, any local transport during the programme and transportation to Norwich after the programme
  • An institution which can arrange a half-day London tour guided by approximately 4 student ambassadors will be preferred.
