This ProtectED Reflections event is the fourth webinar in the series 'Safeguarding the Student Experience'. These explore what safeguarding the student experience really means for universities and HE professionals.

The ProtectED Code of Practice addresses key policies, processes and practices relating to the international student journey. This includes:

• Pre-arrival to the UK
• Arrival
• International Student Orientation
• During Study

This webinar will explore how Covid-19 has impacted international students and the management and delivery of international student support services.

The pandemic has created additional pressures for prospective students wishing to come to the UK. Research suggests that many consulates and administrative services closed or reduced their usual capacity as a result of Covid-19, resulting in delayed processing of visa and permit applications for study purposes.

Covid-19 has made ensuring the safety and wellbeing of university students even more demanding. To remain competitive, HEIs must maintain the quality of student experience they offer to international applicants, while facing additional pressures from Covid. This event will review current issues and priorities, and will also discuss the longer-term impact of the pandemic on HEI policies and practice relating to international students.

Speakers include:

• Helen Clews, Senior Adviser Immigration at British Council and ProtectED Advisory Board member
• Doug Little, Senior Project Manager at the International Student Mental Health Project.

Helen and Doug will be interviewed by Professor Caroline Davey, one of the founders and Directors of ProtectED, after which they will answer questions from attendees.
