British Council In Indonesia Seeks UK Expert for Higher Education Workshop Series “Developing Grade A Academic Summer Schools”

Opportunity

For higher education institutions in Indonesia, internationalisation is a key area in order to obtain global recognition. Universities strive to become world class universities. Student mobility is an essential part of internationalisation development. Universities offer programmes such as double degree, joint degree, student exchange, and academic short programmes/courses.

Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education highly supports mobility programmes. This year, one of the focus areas is to strengthen university academic short programmes/courses.

British Council in collaboration with Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, UK Universities and Indonesian universities are holding CPD workshop series to strengthen the short academic programmes offered by Indonesian universities to attract more international students to study and visit Indonesia.

Objectives

  • To explore reasons for setting up an academic short programmes/courses
  • To reflect on the potential opportunities and threats and identify strengths and weakness of academic short programmes/courses proposition
  • To identify the most appropriate organisational and financial model for academic short programmes/courses
  • To explore different approaches to recruiting students
  • To reflect on external factors that could have an impact on academic short programmes/courses

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate the rationale for academic short programmes/courses
  • Identify potential opportunities for academic short programmes/courses to lead on
  • Establish the most appropriate organisational and financial model for academic short programmes/courses
  • Evaluate the best approach to recruiting students and faculty to academic short programmes/courses
  • Risk assess factors that could have an impact on the sustainability of academic short programmes/courses

HE Workshop Series

We envisage to organise five HE Workshop Series as follows:

  • Jakarta – 5 March 2016 at BINUS University
  • Makassar – 23 May 2016 at Universitas Hasanuddin
  • Palembang – 7 March 2017 at Universitas Sriwijaya
  • Surabaya – 18 May 2017 at Universitas Airlangga
  • Medan – 2017 (tentative)

British Council in Indonesia is seeking for a UK expert from UK higher education institution to be a speaker at the workshop on Thursday, 18 May 2017 in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia.

Benefits

The partnering UK expert will:

  • have the opportunity to build relations with Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti). We have confirmation that Mr. Purwanto Subroto, Ph.D, Chief of Sub directorate of Institutions partnership, will attend the workshop.
  • have direct access to universities nominated by the ministry to attend the workshop. Additionally, the UK institution will have the opportunity to build his/her institution brand and strengthen network among faculty in East Java, Bali, and Kalimantan universities, which may support with future student recruitment
  • understand the trend and demand of higher education sector in Indonesia from the perspective of the people who deal with developing international partnership and managing the students welfare

  • Airfare and accommodation during the workshop (to-from Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia)
