The British Council in Japan will host a UK-Japan Higher Education Reception on Friday 29 November 2024, in Tokyo, Japan.

The reception will recognise existing networks and links between the UK and Japan, celebrate the successes of existing UK-Japan partnerships in higher education and deepen the relationship between the two countries, in the hope of furthering collaboration in higher education.

UK higher education institutions can apply to send senior leadership representatives and researchers to the event.

Please note: no funding support is available. Applicants must fund all costs associated with travelling to and attending the event.

Available places are limited and applying does not guarantee a full invitation being issued.

The application period may be closed early if a high volume of applications are received.

About the event 

The British Council works with researchers, higher education institutions and governments globally to foster international collaboration. The RENKEI partnership of leading UK and Japan universities which is now in its twelfth year, is an example of how we work with partners to bring people together and facilitate collaboration. From 2023, we deliver the International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) to support UK-Japan bilateral research collaborations and researcher mobility, funded by the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). All this work is made possible with the invaluable contributions of UK and Japanese institutions. This event has been organised to recognise the existing networks and links between the two countries, celebrate the successes of UK-Japan partnerships in higher education, and create new connections between people and institutions. We hope this will be an opportunity for informal exchange between representatives and researchers from UK and Japanese universities, policymakers and funders which will further UK-Japan collaboration in research, innovation and student mobility.
