Background

The number of Chinese students being educated at British independent schools is growing rapidly. According to the UK Independent Schools Council 2016 census there were 6,280 students from mainland China studying at UK independent schools, a 10.5% increase from 2015. Chinese mainland students currently make up over 15% of the total number of international students studying at British independent schools. This figured is expected to continue rising as parents not only seek to prepare their children for entry into a UK college or university, but are also recognising the positive benefits a UK independent school education can have on their children from an early age.

The British Council’s 2017 UK Independent School China Mission is a six city tour of China involving direct recruiting sessions with Chinese students and parents interested in receiving international education at school level. These students and parents will be seeking support on study and visa application procedures, interview techniques, information on school fees and scholarships etc. The mission will also include meetings and trainings with selected Chinese agents, giving an opportunity to establish strategic relationships with key agents working in the British school sector.

The Mission is now open for registration to British independent schools with recruiting ambitions in China or who are planning market entry into China.

British Council staff will provide full assistance throughout the trip.

Outline

The final detailed programme will be confirmed by May 2017 and shared with participating institutions.

Please note cities and arrangements may change according to local market needs.

Participation package

Each participating school will:

- have six recruiting sessions in key cities in China

- interact with selected students for interviews and scholarships

- have at least two interactive activities with preferred agents

- have mass media exposure with interviews and alumni stories

Cost: GBP 1,000* includes event logistics, venues, insurance, meals and all travel costs in China.

Visa

A visa will be necessary for UK passport holders to participate in the China School Roadshow 2016. The British Council can provide invitation letters to participants who require a visa, but it is the responsibility of the applicant institution to follow the correct procedures.
