Update:

The British Council is delighted to present the Study UK India Virtual Schools Tour. A two-day virtual tour to provide UK higher education institutions with a direct platform to engage with prospective UG students in India, raise profile and brand awareness, promote their courses and engage with school counsellors.

The private school market in India has grown substantially over recent years due to an increasing demand from parents for an international exposure for their children. The number of schools incorporating CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) board as well as international curriculum in India has grown by over 45% (in the last five years). There are currently 25000+ private schools located throughout the country, which is attended by nearly 50% of the students in India aged between 3 and 18 years. The drivers for this are aspirational students and parents who are increasingly looking for a more holistic approach towards education and international opportunities.

As a result, India continues to remain the second largest international student market, with UK being the second most popular destination to study abroad. The numbers reflect this strong interest in the UK - HESA statistics for 2019 show India doubled total undergraduate enrolments up 128% to 31175. The UCAS applicants data covering the applications up to June 30 deadline substantiates the growth story of international UG market in India. There has been a 30% growth compared to the same point in 2020 entry cycle. We expect these numbers will only grow and it becomes critical to participate with trusted brands in the local market to attract high potential UG students.

Due to the pandemic, the schools in India have adopted e-learning platforms to deliver lessons and study material to students. In 2020 British Council provided UK Universities an opportunity to interact with 12000+ students across India by successfully conducting various online/digital events like Virtual fairs, thematic webinars and online masterclasses and the Facebook Live sessions last year.

It is a unique opportunity for the UK higher education sector to have access to prospective UG students (classes 11 and 12) from premier Indian schools, raise profile and brand awareness, gather market intelligence through interactions with students and counsellors and showcase their offer in terms of world class degrees, infrastructure, variety of courses, scholarships, and career prospects

Given the growing UG trend in the market, our objective is position the UK as a preferred destination for higher education and focus on the potential of the UG market, reaching out specifically to school students across India

Virtual Schools Tour India Format

The British Council will facilitate the online platform for the UK higher education institutions to connect with selected Indian schools through an online platform. Each UK HEI will be provided with an opportunity to meet eight premier schools from India in two sessions per day spread over two days
Each session will last for 1hour 30min. Maximum three UK Higher Education Institute’s (HEIs) are invited for each session (representing one speaker each plus a few alumni overall). Each speaker will be given 15-20 minutes to present. The UK HEIs on the panel will be requested to present on a theme which is of interest to the student and will be engaging. The UK HEIs will need to coordinate and present this together, with each UK HEI getting a chance to present on the theme. Each UK HEI will also get a chance to present on their institution, opportunities, and contact details.
Some indicative topics for reference are as below:
•    Courses available at UG level, eligibility criteria and the application process
•    Teaching methodology,
•    Scholarships available,
•    Career prospects,
•    Interview tips and statement of purpose

The British Council will coordinate the session theme and work with the UK HEIs to prepare for it.
After the presentations, there will be a 30 min Q&A session with the students and parents. The session will be chaired and moderated by the British Council. We will hold technical rehearsals and the British Council will be happy to advise the participating UK HEIs on their plan for the sessions
