Study UK Virtual Schools and Colleges Fair, East Asia

We are delighted to invite UK schools, colleges, and pre-university programme providers to participate in our Study UK Virtual Schools Fair 2021, which will be held on 7-9 October.

The fair aims to showcase UK schools, colleges, and pre-university programme providers to targeted audiences through the widely used digital platform – Zoom.  With interest in boarding schools and pre-university programmes growing in East Asia, especially in Hong Kong and Thailand, this campaign represents an excellent opportunity for UK institutions to raise profile and reach key influencers including parents and agents.

Through the virtual fair, British Council East Asia will help UK boarding schools to:

  1. Engage with prospective students online
  2. Enhance your positioning, profile and attractiveness in East Asia
  3. Boost your international student recruitment numbers

Benefits to participating schools:

  1. A 20-minute presentation about schooling in the UK
  2. A 10-minute breakout session at the end
  3. 1-2-1 meetings with parents and prospective students on 9 October
  4. A profile page in the Fair handbook that will be distributed to all participants
  5. Student e-mail contacts (with consent) will be shared after the event
  6. Opportunities to join in the Inspire Scholarship campaign* to gain extra promotional opportunities pre and post the event (optional)

Study UK Virtual Schools and Colleges Fair

Hong Kong

Hong Kong continues to be the UK’s second largest source market of international students for UK schools. UK education, and boarding schools in particular, enjoy a reputation for academic excellence, and parents look to send their students in order to avoid political turbulence and high-pressure local education system. Despite the shrinking youth population in Hong Kong and the Covid-19 outbreak, the number of Hong Kong students in UK boarding schools increased 6.6% (from 5,127 to 5,466) in 2021, according to the ISC report 2021. We expect the market will be growing steadily over the next couple of years.

Thailand

Despite being a Postgraduate led market, the number of Tier 4 child visas from Thailand has consistently increased since 2014, and likewise, the number of Thai students in UK boarding schools has also increased. Data indicates that the UK has gained market share in this younger segment of the student recruitment market. Even though there was a drop in the number of students to UK schools recently due to Covid-19 pandemic, with the better situation in the UK, more enquiries and demands start to be seen in the market. Therefore, this virtual event will help reconnect schools and colleges again with prospective parents and students.
