As part of our continued support of the UK education sector, the British Council organised two meetings in collaboration with the UK Border Agency in UAE. Following the 31March 2009 launch of the Tier 4 (General) student visa, and a number of changes afterwards, it became essential that we raise awareness and increase understanding of the student visa regulations. As such, we, the British Council, asked the UK Border Agency to attend a meeting for agents and scholarship providers to explain how these new changes will affect the application process.

The British Council IELTS examinations team was also present to explain more about the IELTS exam and its relevance to students wishing to study outside the UAE.

These meetings were an opportunity to build stronger ties with each other and to learn more about what support is available to assist students who will continue their studies in the UK. The meetings took place at the British Council offices in Abu Dhabi on Sunday 24th June 2012 and in Dubai on Tuesday 26 June 2012.

Mr Ian Walker, UKBA Entry Clearance Manager, British Embassy, delivered a presentation about the Points Based System and the new changes to the UK visa application process. Mr Walker also guided the audience on how they can assist students in the visa application process.

“International students bring an extra dimension to the education experience of all students in the UK and bring a perspective that will help everyone to prosper in the global economy.  I hope that the briefings helped to clarify the new and revised regulations for the benefit of all students from the UAE who are traveling to the UK to study this year”, said Kate Owen, British Council Director for Dubai.
