The British Council team in Bangladesh recently undertook an ambitious initiative in building a bridge between students from remote areas of the country and UK institutions through a ‘Marketing Roadshow’ which started late August and ended early November 2013. Seminars on Studying and Living in the UK were held across Rajshahi, Comilla, Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong and included presentations and daylong counselling sessions by representatives from 12 different UK institutions. Flyers and prospectuses were also distributed on behalf of the institutions. This remote marketing campaign had 1103 visitors across 5 different cities and visitors from different parts of the county and adjacent cities. We witnessed overwhelming participation in Sylhet with more than 400 participants in attendance. An IELTS briefing session on British Council Digital Resources in Sylhet and Chittagong was also well received. “Thanks a lot for arranging the seminar. It was very helpful”—student Local agents representing a range of different UK institutions found the events tremendously helpful to support the on-going promotion of UK Education in this market. Well received by the press and media in Bangladesh, the seminars showcased GREAT branding which successfully promoted the best of UK, gaining considerable visibility in these cities and across Bangladesh.
