Upon the generous invitation of the Macau Government, the British Council exhibited at the Macau Education Fair held between Friday 24 February – Sunday 26 February 2012.
Three council representatives from the Education Services, Customer Services and Examination Services departments distributed education information and fielded enquiries, the majority of which were about UK secondary and tertiary education, and IELTS examinations in Macau. There were also a notable number of UK post-graduate enquiries. Many visitors raised concerns about visa changes and conditions of UK entry for Portuguese passport holders.
The fair boasted 90 exhibitors which included higher education institutions from Macau, Hong Kong, China as expected but also some other smaller recruitment markets such as Brunei, Philippines and Taiwan. Leading higher education markets such as Australia, Canada and United States were well represented by both universities and government education bodies.
Visitor numbers fell short of expected levels, but this is only the second year this has been held and the British Council Hong Kong looks forward to continue supporting the fair over the coming years.
