In 2010, the British Council in Singapore pioneered the hybrid education fair: besides exhibitors from UK colleges and universities, participants also included reputable private education institutions (PEIs) offering UK qualifications in Singapore. The hybrid model works particularly well in a country like Singapore, where recent years have seen a simultaneous increase in demand from two discrete groups of students: those who opt for a campus experience in the UK, and those who choose instead to remain in Singapore to pursue a UK education.
On Sunday 18 March, together with our 52 exhibitors, we attracted more than 3,000 visitors. The crowds that thronged the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel were testament to the greatly increased interest among students here for a British education. In addition, many of the 17 seminar sessions were well-attended, as the topics were of great relevance to the visitors.
Exhibitors also had the option of joining a two-day roadshow on the following Monday and Tuesday, to visit some of the local schools.
