EDUKEX 2012 in Kuwait was a highly successful exhibition as it attracted approximately 2150 visitors through out two days. This year 2012, 45 UK institutions took part in the exhibition and it was considered the biggest exhibition ever to be held in Kuwait. The event attracted a great deal of media attention, including television coverage in the opening ceremony from government and private TV station.
The Ministry of Higher Education has been encouraging the Kuwaiti students to study abroad by providing noteworthy scholarships with incentives. The MoHE also doubled the number of overseas scholarships in 2012 and hence the number of students going to UK also increased (almost doubled).
EDUKEX 2012 saw many Kuwaiti students visiting the various institution booths to obtain first-hand knowledge about what is being offered by the UK universities and colleges.
The event proved popular with both Kuwaitis and non-Kuwaitis seeking an overseas education to further their career opportunities. With a huge range of undergraduate, post-graduate, vocational and English courses to choose from, the UK offers unparalleled access to the very best in further and higher education. While engineering, medicine and business administration continue to be the most popular courses for Kuwaitis in the UK, an increasing number are taking advantage of the many foundation courses on offer that will lead on to a Higher Education degree or of the opportunity to improve their English-language skills. In 2012, 2,500 people in Kuwait applied for a student visa to the UK. We expect the Kuwait market to keep growing and emerging with more UK alumni in the near future.
