UK remains the top study destination for Kazakhstani students

Education in the UK remains in high demand amongst Kazakhstani students. The UK has been the top destination for government-funded Bolashak students since 1994. Overall, 2,354 students have completed their studies in the UK over the past twenty years. Bilateral education co-operation is high on the agenda, especially after the UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit in July 2013, and the Universities’ Minister David Willetts’ visit in November 2013.

With this in mind, the British Council organised the second Education UK Exhibition in Almaty and Astana in October 2013. This was the biggest exhibition devoted to UK education in Kazakhstan in 2013, and was attended by 40 leading UK educational institutions, and over 3,000 visitors.

The British Council organised the exhibition in exclusive partnership with the Government of Kazakhstan’s Center for International Programs (CIP), the managers of the Bolashak Scholarship Programme. In 2013, 39 UK universities were included on CIP’s list of approved universities for postgraduate study, which is compiled annually by CIP, based on international rankings.

Currently, 928 Bolashak students are studying in 57 educational institutions all over the UK on postgraduate and non-degree fellowship programmes.
