According to the latest British Council research on transnational education (TNE), the major challenges and issues that UK providers face whilst setting up and implementing TNE programmes include communication and cultural differences, staff recruitment and evaluation, education methods and assessment, and finance and law. Therefore, beyond understanding TNE regulations and getting approval from the Ministry of Education, managing daily operations, awareness of different education delivery methods, and understanding broader implications on tax and labour laws are all essential to establishing a successful TNE partnership.
The British Council is organising a UK-China TNE workshop in London on Monday 20 March 2017, in partnership with Universities UK International and the Quality Assurance Agency. This is an initiative supported by the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), as part of the programme of activities under the UK-China Knowledge Economy Education Partnership (KEEP).
The workshop will focus on management and operations of TNE presence in China. Practitioners and experts will be invited to share experiences and good practices, as well as discuss cross-cultural management and communication of UK-China TNE. We will also share the key findings of the joint research between the British Council and the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) on the current status of UK-China joint programmes / joint institutes. The workshop will be followed by a lunch reception to celebrate the launch of the Network of UK-China TNE Providers.
This is a unique opportunity for all UK institutions with current or planned TNE partnerships in China to gain valuable insights into this area of education collaboration. The session is free of charge and will be chaired by Jazreel Goh, Director of Education Operations at the British Council in China.
