National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU) School of Banking and Finance is looking for UK University Partners to deliver courses to their students online or in person with a view to establishing a joint degree programme in three years’ time.

Benefits for the UK partner
This is an opportunity for the selected UK partner to establish a long-term partnership with a top Taiwanese university (ranked 7 in Taiwan) and welcome a regular cohort of Taiwanese finance and business students. The opportunity has the potential for expansion into the development of a joint degree programme. It is also an opportunity for the UK partner to raise their institution’s profile and brand awareness in Taiwan, which may benefit further student recruitment.

Areas of responsibility for the two collaborating parties
The proposed collaboration would take place over three phases; however, each phase of the collaboration is not necessarily a pre-requisite to the other phases. The selected UK partner will be expected to work with NSYSU School of Banking and Finance to:

Year One

  • Deliver courses to students at their newly established School of Banking and Finance.
    • Courses can be delivered online and/or through intensive one to two-week courses delivered in person in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
      • N.B Students are currently full-time finance professionals therefore on-line courses need to be taught on Fridays and Saturdays during the daytime Taiwan Time (GMT+8).
      • It is preferable for lecturers to have prominent industry experience
  • Host 50+ students for intensive courses delivered in the UK in Summer 2024.

Year Two

  • Deliver courses for one semester or more in person in Taipei
  • Establish a student exchange programme for one or more semesters of study

Year Three

  • Develop and deliver a joint degree programme

Depending on the nature of the collaboration, NSYSU BU will be responsible for providing:

  • Competitive stipends
  • Travelling expenses
  • Housing allowance
  • Tuition fees
  • Other related expenses

National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU)

  • NSYSU was established in 1980
  • Its main campus is in Kaohsiung, the largest city in Southern Taiwan.
  • Nestled in the hills on the edge of the Shoushan Natural Park, and adjacent to Kaohsiung Harbour, the campus is home to abundant wildlife.

NSYSU School of Banking and Finance

  • NSYSU’s School of Banking and Finance was established in March 2022
  • The School of Banking and Finance’s mission is to cultivate international financial talents.
  • It currently has 56 students.
  • The School of Banking and Finance has been collaborating with 22 financial institutions across Taiwan to establish the Institute of Global Asset Management and offers microprograms in Sustainable Finance and Financial Technology.
  • The Institute of Global Asset Management provides practical financial modules for intermediate executives in the financial sector, government regulatory bodies, and upstream, midstream, and downstream companies of the technology industry.
  • In future the School of Banking and Finance will also offer specialised master’s degrees in Sustainable Finance and Financial Technology.
  • Students are currently employed by Taiwan’s major financial institutions and attend classes only on Fridays & Saturdays.

Kaohsiung City

  • Kaohsiung is the third most populated city in Taiwan with 2.77 million residents. The City has transformed from an industrial centre with refining and shipbuilding industries to focusing on the semiconductor/photoelectric, digital-content, biomedical, cultural creativity, and tourism industries.
  • Kaohsiung has tropical monsoon climate with an average temperature of 25°C, with high of 35°C in July and low of 12°C in January. Rain and typhoon usually occur in the summer months of June -August.
  • Kaohsiung is easily accessible by the international airport (KHH), high speed rail (THSR), TRA train, metro-rapid transit (KMRT), light rail (LRT), and Kaohsiung i-bus.
