The British Council Greece is excited to announce our largest ever transnational education support programme with the Greek Ministry of Education, in partnership with the British Embassy in Athens, which will support collaborations between UK and Greek universities.

We’re inviting university heads and directors of international engagement to join a launch and information event on Friday 5 March and find out how your university can benefit. Register here.

Further details are below. You can download the launch event programme below.

About the support programme

Through this programme, the British Council and the Greek Ministry of Education will support UK universities to identify and facilitate collaborations with their Greek counterparts. These might include supporting you in developing joint and dual degrees, distance learning, summer programmes, academic and student exchanges, or other learning opportunities.

This is the largest scale cooperation with the Ministry of Education as is the first of its kind in terms of content, scale and ambition. The Greek Minister of Education, Ms Niki Kerameus, is heavily behind the programme, particularly given its importance to bilateral relations between Greece and the UK around education post-Brexit. It is also supported by the Greek Rectors’ Synod, Universities UK International and the Russell Group Universities who have joined the partnership as members of the advisory board.

Universities who join will be offered the following four-step plan:

  1. Take part in our research among UK and Greek universities. This will enable us to identify subject areas and types of programmes of common interest.
  2. Join a series of thematic webinars. Using the information from our research, we’ll ensure these focus on common areas of interest and allow you to get to know different Greek institutions.
  3. Join partner-matching activities where you can speak one-to-one with individual institutions.
  4. Take part in delegation visits and exchanges to take your partnership interests forward.

Why Greece?

Greece has developed a favourable policy framework towards international collaborations. Greek universities know this and are taking the opportunity to increase their international partners more than ever before.  There are 24 universities in Greece, located in all regions of the country, offering a broad range of rigorous academic programmes and substantial experience in international collaborations.

This is an exciting opportunity for your institution to benefit from Greece’s high-quality academics, innovative research methods and international outlook.
