The National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) in Sri Lanka is looking for a UK higher edcuation partner to explore the possibility of offering BSc in Applied Psychology and International Relations/Diplomacy degree programmes, with a transfer option for its students to study in the UK university after completing their first or second academic year in Sri Lanka.

About NIBM

The National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) was established in 1968 under the Ministry of Industries and Scientific Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme. It initially operated as an agency for implementing programmes of the International Labour Organization (ILO). Over time, it transformed into the National Institute of Business Management through an Act of Parliament (The National Institute of Business Management Act No 23 of 1976) and underwent further amendments under Act No. 28 of 1991.

NIBM currently consists of five schools, three academic centers and four regional campuses island wide managed under the supervision of its governing council. This consists of School of Business hosted at the National Center for Future Business, School of Computing and Engineering, School of Languages, School of Design, Productivity and Quality Center, National Innovation Center, and the Business Analytics Centre.

NIBM won the Merit Award at the National Quality Awards and granted ISO –9001- in 2007 standards certification. Further, NIBM focusses on student life & engagement which offers students different opportunities to develop their skills on campus while helping undergraduates to become visionary leaders, skilled professionals in the industry with solid technical skills which require to be updated with advances in technology. NIBM mission involves engaging students in an active based learning platform, providing them with purposeful opportunities that enhance the undergraduates academic experience to foster personal growth in an environment that demonstrates core values of life.

NIBM is keen to partner with a UK university in the top 100 QS or THE rankings.

Outcomes expected of the collaboration

NIBM expects to achieve the followings objectives through the collaboration.

  • To partner with a UK university to offer full time and transfer opportunities for selected undergraduate programmes promoting transnational education.
  • To offer opportunities for students to study selected masters & PhDs in partnership with the UK university.
  • To conduct short-term student transfers for research engagements, seminars, workshops, summer school opportunities.
  • To run faculty exchange programmes and joint faculty research engagements between the two Universities.
  • To facilitate student exchange programmes. 

How will the collaboration benefit both institutes?

The established partnership will help to improve co-operation between NIBM and the UK university strengthening relationships, sharing expertise and improving educational opportunities, and will operate based on equality and mutual benefit.

The collaboration will also create the basis for deeper and broader collaboration that may include PhD education and collaborative research.
