A new initiative, in partnership with the Department for Business and Trade, offers higher education providers the opportunity to participate in an inward mission to Viet Nam and Thailand.
Background
Viet Nam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) is eager to enhance their universities’ capabilities in transnational education, research, innovation, industry linkages, and quality assurance. There is growing interest in science and technology TNE partnerships, including AI, big data, biotechnology, and green energy.
In Viet Nam, the UK’s reputation for providing high-quality and sustainable education remains strong. According to HESA statistics, enrolments in UK higher education programmes in Viet Nam have increased by an average of 11% annually over the last five years, reaching over 7,100 in 2021/22. Among all overseas partners, Viet Nam has the highest number of transnational education (TNE) programmes with the UK, although only 10% of these programmes are in the field of science and technology.
Building upon the continued success and increased interest of UK universities in Viet Nam, as well as capitalising on the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and British Council’s ongoing initiatives with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), our inward mission will encompass major cities such as Da Nang, followed by Hanoi, with the possibility of a day in Hai Phong, Viet Nam’s third largest city and a major maritime hub. This mission will serve as our key education event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of UK-Viet Nam diplomatic relations, connecting UK universities with local institutions, key industries, and ministry officials.
While in the region, we are seizing the opportunity to visit Thailand, where there are approximately 1,000 UK TNE enrolments per year. The number of UK TNE enrolments has grown by approximately 20% over the past five years, and we believe there is potential for further growth. Internationalisation is one of the top priorities for the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and universities in Thailand, and TNE can play a crucial role in driving this initiative. This one-day visit programme will offer UK delegates the opportunity to receive the latest updates and insights on TNE partnership development in Thailand, as well as reconnect and meet key representatives from universities in Thailand.
