British Council has for several years been running the IP Law Ambassador Campaign in order to raise awareness of IP law amongst the public and especially the younger generation in Thailand. The project sees British Council working collaboratively with prestigious and influential partners in the field of law in Thailand including the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court (IP&IT Court), Biodiversity –Based Economy Development Office (BEDO), and True Visions, the largest cable TV operator in Thailand.
The project is highly visible, prestigious and attracts hundreds of applicants year on year.
The two winning Young Thai IP Law Ambassadors are selected through a two-round competition:
The first round consists of an essay submission. Each team will need to use their knowledge in law especially in Intellectual Property together with their knowledge in other related areas in order to write an interesting and engaging essay. The essay is in English and will be judged by the committee which consists of prominent IP experts in Thailand.
The second round is the moot competition. The teams have to present the case in English. English moot competition is very rare in Thailand. In this round, the students are encouraged and challenged to use their IP knowledge and English skills to come up with creative arguments to present to the judges in order to win the competition. Students will receive coaching from selected Law companies in Thailand. The championship round will be broadcast live on True Visions.
We are pleased to invite UK institutions to take part in this campaign by sponsoring the project. In return, institutions will have a unique opportunity to raise their profiles and promote themselves to law students across Thailand as well as to senior and influential contacts in the legal field both in the private and public sectors.
