Thailand’s internet users topped 25 million at the end of 2011, up 26.77% from 2010. The number of internet users in Thailand is expected to grow by at least 30% to 32.5 million in 2012, fuelled by the proliferation of smartphones and tablets along with third-generation (3G) technology growth. In 2011, the smartphone market in Thailand grew 200 percent compared with the previous year, while the feature phone market grew 10 percent year-on-year.
To cope with the changing trends in the cyber world in Thailand and to increase more opportunities for UK institutions to meet with prospective Thai students, British Council Thailand is planning to organise its first virtual exhibition in October 2012 and March 2012.
The first virtual exhibition in October is to provide opportunities for students in Thailand who are starting to find information on courses and universities in the UK during their term break while the one in March is to provide opportunities to do the follow up for the applications after the main exhibition in January in Bangkok.
Furthermore, the virtual exhibition is designed to provide opportunities to UK institutions to cope with the increasing demands of students in the main cities outside of Bangkok including Udornthani (GDP per capita: 42,567), Khon Kaen (GDP per capita = 76,385) and Chiang Mai (GDP per capita: 79,236), without actually travelling there.
Further information on the two virtual exhibitions in Thailand will be available later in July.
