The Ministry of Education in Taiwan has agreed that 70 senior high schools can deliver online courses jointly with overseas sister schools. As a result, 43 schools in Taiwan (see the full list below) are now seeking UK schools to form sister school partnerships with, and to establish mutually beneficial arrangements. The schools in Taiwan are looking for UK schools who can conduct online bilingual teaching for specific courses, and in return will be able to provide online courses in Mandarin for the sister schools.
Format and delivery of the online joint courses
1. Online Cultural Exchange
- Thematic approaches are used for flexible learning time, community activities, and multiple elective courses.
- Schools can use social media platforms or email to communicate with their sister schools to promote mutual exchange.
2. Online co-teaching courses
Teachers from both schools plan the course jointly. When delivering the course, teachers from sister schools deliver the course and teachers from home countries provide synchronous instruction to students.
3.Online credit elective courses
After the implementation of online cultural exchange and online co-teaching courses, both schools can further develop ‘online credit elective courses’.
- The course is planned as a ‘full semester’ course and is included in the school's curriculum plan.
- At least 1/6 of the course will be delivered virtually by teachers from sister schools, with synchronous instruction from local teachers.
- The assessment of students’ learning will be jointly measured by teachers of both schools.
Benefits for UK partners
- Opportunities for the UK schools to establish sister schools with schools in Taiwan and conduct online cultural exchange activities to enhance students' understanding of different cultures.
- Local schools in Taiwan are able to offer Mandarin language courses to their sister schools to promote mutual exchange and cooperation opportunities.
