UK higher education professionals are invited to deliver sessions at an Internationalisation Workshop hosted by the British Council and CEAIE in Beijing in April 2019.
The Generation UK Internationalisation Workshop will bring together experts from the UK and China to discuss how to increase the number of UK students studying in China. This is anticipated to contribute towards the ambitious targets set out in the China Education Modernisation 2035 Plan to host over 200,000 international students a year by 2020, and in the long term to support China’s wider economic and social development in the higher education sector.
Based on the UK’s experience in hosting international students, experts will deliver relevant training in order to support the international strategies of universities in China with the following objectives:
- Grow the scale and strengthen the impact of student mobility from the UK to China
- Support higher education institutions in China to strengthen their capacity to attract and host an increased number of international students from the UK
- Help inform the wider internationalisation strategies of higher education institutions in China
- Provide expertise and practical training from the UK on specific topics
Applicants are invited to deliver sessions on a variety of topics related to international student services in the host country, focusing in particular on one of the following:
Workshop Topics
- Effective programme design for UK study abroad students
- Marketing and recruitment strategies to attract UK study abroad students
- Understanding student health and wellbeing and how to support study abroad students
- Provision of study abroad student services – accommodation, visas and immigration, campus facilities, social activities
- Barriers and solutions for UK students studying in China

The British Council will cover the costs of return flights from the UK to China and hotel accommodation for the duration of the workshop for speakers travelling from the UK.
Generation UK background
The British Council’s Generation UK campaign aims to grow the scale and strengthen the impact of student mobility from the UK to China. This involves supporting Chinese provincial governments and higher education institutions to strengthen their capacity to attract and host an increased number of international students from the UK.
