Shaoguan University in Guangdong Province is looking for a UK partner to jointly develop and deliver two to three 4+0 or 3+1 dual degrees in the subject area of engineering. The joint programmes could include but not be limited to: mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, internet security, food science and engineering, and agriculture science and engineering.
The joint programmes are expected to recruit a total of approximately 150-200 students each year beginning from September 2019 (with each subject recruiting around 50 students).
It is expected that students will have the option of completing their fourth year and / or pursuing their Master’s degree at the partner institution if they meet the entry requirements.
The Chinese university and the UK institution will discuss and decide the nature of the partnership, including the financial model and curriculum mapping and design.
Benefits for the UK partner
This is an opportunity for the selected partner institution to:
- Establish a long-term strategic partnership with the Chinese university, with potential for expansion into other subject areas and fields of cooperation, such as student and staff exchange, joint research etc.
- receive financial reimbursement for the programme delivery, with details to be further discussed with the Chinese university
- increase student recruitment.
Areas of responsibility for the two collaborating parties
The UK partner will be expected to:
- develop a joint curriculum
- provide quality assurance
- provide teaching/staffing resources to deliver programme(s) in China
- provide Bachelor’s degrees upon successful completion of the programmes
- provide teacher training to Chinese counterparts
- facilitate student admission and provide academic and administrative support locally and in the UK.
Shaoguan University will be expected to:
- Gain approval for the joint programme(s) from the Chinese Ministry of Education
- advertise and promote the joint porgramme(s) to recruit students nationally
- provide high standard teaching premises, qualified teaching staff and a dedicated programme coordination team
- support the UK partner to promote studying opportunities at the UK institution.
About Shaoguan University
Shaoguan University is the only public university in northern Guangdong which is under the administration of the Guangdong Education Department. It has around 29,000 undergraduate students and 2,500 teaching staff. The university has over 50 international partnerships with overseas institutions, including 10 student exchange programmes, and undergraduate, postgraduate and short term articulation programmes in 1+3, 2+2, 3+1 and 1+2+1 formats. As of April 2016, 420 students were participating in such programmes.
