British Council Indonesia invites UK higher education institutions (HEIs) to take part in a special universities and colleges strand of the UK/ID festival, promoting and celebrating UK-Indonesia links in the creative industries.
About the festival
UK/ID is a three-year programme to build new connections and relationships between UK and Indonesia in the arts and creative industries. It takes the form of networking programmes, residencies, collaborations and showcases. You can read some of our stories on the UK/ID website.
The highest profile showcase is the annual UK/ID festival, which last year reached live audiences of over 8,000 and had substantial coverage in the Indonesian media.
The 2017 festival will run for nine days (14-22 October) in a large indoor venue in central Jakarta (capacity c. 1,000), featuring a series of collaborative music, film and performing arts events, alongside creative exhibitions and installations showcasing UK/Indonesia residencies. For the last weekend of the festival, we aim to showcase UK Creative Education – and we’re inviting UK HEIs to take part. It’s a rare opportunity to directly reach young Indonesians who are specifically interested in the creative industries.
What are we looking for?
This is a festival, so we’re looking for creative content and ideas by students, alumni, academics, researchers, and creative partners of UK HEIs:
- visual or audio-visual displays and installations of creative work
- talks and workshops
- small-scale performances
We’re keen to promote UK content, but we’ll also be interested in featuring Indonesian alumni and welcome proposals for either.
What’s the financial and marketing deal?
British Council Indonesia and its local partners will provide:
• Venue
• Production facilities (stage, basic sound/lighting, production management, installation space)
• Accommodation and meals for any agreed UK creative practitioners
We expect UK HEIs to cover:
• Flights to Indonesia
• Artists fees (where applicable)
• Costs for non-creative visitors from the UK (such as marketing or management)
Participating HEIs will all receive logo credit in festival publicity materials and on-site branding, and verbal recognition during the event itself.
There will be a small number of specific marketing booths available for HEIs that wish to purchase dedicated space for the weekend. Further details are available on request.
How do we take part?
HEIs should complete the online form by 11 August to propose content for the festival. You are welcome to make multiple proposals by completing the form multiple times.
