Background

Juhuasuan is an online bulk purchasing website and a core business unit of the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, one of China's leading e-commerce brand marketing platforms. Juhuasuan connects many domestic and foreign brands to the Chinese e-commerce market, and acts as an important channel to help Chinese consumers to learn more about foreign goods.

Publicity indications

1. Juhuasuan has an average daily page view of 30 million, mostly from the phone application.
2. The platform’s gross merchandise volume (GMV) reached 50 billion RMB in 2015. The daily GMV between January – March 2016 was 0.2 billion RMB.

Previous cooperations

1. After the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, ten thousand pieces of the British Pavilion Temple were sold in two minutes on Juhuasuan.
2. In 2010, Smart Automobile © made an online campaign with Juhuasuan, during which 205 cars were sold in 3 hours.
3. Juhuasuan organises many online campaigns, with recent examples including “Ju20”, which brought together products from 20 countries for a limited period of time, and a promotion campaign for Chinese-made high quality products, both of which were widely welcomed by consumers and brands.

Name: 1+1=New

Project Information: The 1+1=New project connects China's manufacturing industry with the British fashion design industry through Juhuasuan. Juhuasuan would like to invite the UK's top design students to design clothing, shoes and bags for production by well-known Chinese domestic enterprises, and to authorise the final products for sale on Juhuasuan.

Benefits to UK institutions/students:

- brand exposure for institutions, which may positively influence student recruitment
- opportunity for institutions to develop partnerships with production companies
- opportunity for students to launch careers with real-life design work experience
- opportunity for students to create links with Chinese industry and markets
- students will be paid for their designs, either through copyright purchase or by taking a percentage of the sales profits (to be decided after designs are selected).

Requirements:

- institutions to recommend students and graduates
- a minimum of two products to be designed for the production companies (no maximum number)
- institutions or participating students to sign a cooperation agreement with the production companies, to ensure that the interests of all parties involved are represented
- students are welcome to submit existing designs, but are encouraged to think about the needs and trends of the Chinese market.

Important deadlines

24 March 2016: Submission deadline
28 March 2016: Completion of negotiations and signing of a cooperation agreement with the recommended production companies
1 April 2016: Submission of final designs for production
8 April 2016: Production companies to complete sample productions
27 April 2016: Campaign launch and products ready for purchase on Juhuasuan.com

Please note that only a limited number of institutions will be selected and we can therefore not guarantee inclusion in this programme. Institutions will be selected by Juhuasuan and the relevant Chinese production companies based on the designs submitted.
