As part of the GREAT Career campaign, the British Council China is piloting a one-month Alumni UK Summer Programme to be delivered in ten cities across China: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Suzhou. The programme gives participants the chance to engage in one-day visits to leading Chinese companies across a range of industries, to learn more about for example their business scope, structure and recruitment procedure, and understand what skills will benefit their future employability. Alumni of UK higher education institutions and recent UK institution offer holders in China are invited to join the programme, which kicked off on 21 July and runs until the end of August.

Who can apply?
• Chinese students, either recent graduates (within one year) or currently studying at a UK institution
• Chinese students holding offers to UK institutions for the upcoming year
• British students currently residing in China who have studied at a UK university

Why should students apply?
By participating in the programme, students will gain:
• industry insights from the senior management of leading Chinese companies
• an increased understanding of recruitment and selection procedures of leading Chinese companies and information about vacancies for their full-time positions and internships in 2016-17
• the opportunity to increase their employability skills and knowledge by using free career advisory services provided by the British Council’s partner HR platforms for the Programme
• the opportunity to network with fellow UK alumni and exchange experiences of a UK education.

How to apply
Upcoming company visits will be advertised every Friday on the Alumni UK Network WeChat account (Alumni_UK), and applicants will be required to fill in the registration link to apply for a place: http://t.cn/Rt2CUg7

By following the Alumni UK Network on WeChat, applicants will also receive more information about the companies involved and reminders about the upcoming placements. Please note that the registration form and posts from the WeChat account are in Chinese language.

If an applicant is successful, their details will be passed on to the partner company who will get in touch via email with a schedule for the visit.

Please note that the majority of the visits and presentations will take place in Chinese language, with an English speaking staff available to answer questions if required

Applicants can register for more than one company visit on the Programme. However, as places are limited and we aim to provide this valuable opportunity to as many students as possible, priority will be given to new participants over those who have already participated.

As an important link to current students, offer holders and alumni from your university who are currently living, working or studying in China, we are seeking your support in passing this opportunity on to those who are eligible. Attached is an invitation which introduces the programme and provides the registration link for alumni and offer holders. We encourage you to share it among future offer holders, students and recent graduates who may now have returned to China. Both British and Chinese students are welcome to take part, although the majority of presentations and visits will take place in Chinese language, with an English speaking member of staff able to take questions if required.

If you have any questions, please email alumniuk@britishcouncil.org.cn.
