The demand for English in Indonesia is still popular. Based on EF Education First English proficiency report, in 2016 Indonesia has moderate English proficiency, ranked the 8th out of 19 Asian countries. Despite having Bahasa Indonesia as its main language, the need for English in daily life and other purposes like study or work has made more Indonesian are trying to improve their English skills. Most Indonesians have positive perception towards the UK as the country origin of British English. The UK good quality education has also been well known among Indonesian audience

The needs for English are varied amongst Indonesian target audience. With the increasing number of students continuing their studies overseas, English preparation for English test such as IELTS or TOEFL are getting more popular among the students. Despite the majority would take the course in Indonesia, a number of students who are more affluent might choose to do the pre-sessional course overseas before they start their studies. The growing numbers of secondary schools with international curriculum also increase the collaboration potential for summer school or short courses programmes.

To raise more awareness of the UK as the destination to study English and to showcase the excellence of UK English teaching, British Council will be holding its first networking and public session event for ELT providers from the UK. The aims of this event are as follows:

• To enable UK ELT providers to connect and build network with potential Indonesian education agents or schools.
• To explore the opportunity to collaborate with education agents or schools.
• To showcase the excellence of UK ELT to Indonesian audience
• To give opportunity for the UK ELT sectors to meet directly with potential students.

It will be a one day event on 2 February 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia (venue TBC). The event will consist of the following:

• Speed networking with potential agents or schools
• Networking lunch with agents or schools
• Public consultation session

The cost of the event is as follows:

• GBP 1000 (exc VAT)
