Nanfang College of Sun Yat-sen University is looking for UK partners interested in establishing a Ministry of Education approved transnational education joint undergraduate programme in the field of Computer Science. Possible subject areas include Cloud Computing, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and other fields that meet the interest of both parties. The partnership would be in the format 4+0.

Responsibilities of the two partners

The UK partner will be expected to:

  • Jointly develop the curriculum for the joint programme
  • Provide support in the quality assurance of the programme, including hosting academic visits and training of qualified faculty
  • Undertake the teaching of one third of the core modules of the programme
  • Ensure compliance with all necessary regulations for formally approved transnational education programmes in China.

Nanfang College of Sun Yat-sen University will be responsible for:

  • Programme application paperwork to the Chinese Ministry of Education (with supporting documents from the UK university partner)
  • Promoting and recruiting students for the programme (estimated annual recruitment is 100 students)
  • Operational, teaching and administrative costs of the collaborative programme

The university is open to discussing the financial structure and other partnership details with the UK partner directly.

About Nanfang College of Sun Yat-sen University

Nanfang College of Sun Yat-sen University (NFSYSU) is a private college co-founded by Sun Yat-sen University and Guangdong Pearl River Investment, accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2006.

NFSYSU specialises in management, economics and literature, with other strengths in engineering, science, medicine, and arts. At present, there are 19,590 undergraduate students and 2,300 postgraduate or PhD students.

The College is committed to the internationalisation of higher education, with existing partnerships or exchange programmes with more than 30 universities worldwide, including the University of Oxford and the University of Washington.

NFSYSU is ranked fifth among private colleges in China, with plans to upgrade to an independent private university in 2021 (as Guangdong Nanfang University) under the guidance of the Ministry of Education.

Projected timeline for collaboration:

  • July to September: initial discussions on the partnership
  • August to September: (if ready) application submitted to the MOE
  • September to December: approval by the MOE
  • March to May 2021: programme promotion or supplementary application to the MoE
  • September 2021: First year enrolment on to the programme
